Randolph Lee Obituary

Randolph Lee, 86, of Campbell River, BC died peacefully on Sept. 19, 2019.

Born March 4, 1933 in St. Thomas, Ontario to George Tung Hoywon Lee and Mary Yee Lee he spent his early years in London, Ontario. Pursuing a lifelong passion for learning, he studied at the Universities of Western Ontario and British Columbia. Following a career in geological surveying, Randolph completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto, specializing in internal medicine. He practiced medicine for over 55 years, treasuring his work at Saint Michael’s Hospital (Toronto), Royal Victoria Hospital (Barrie) and finally with Vancouver Island Health (BC). Randolph enjoyed clinical practice so much, he hung up his stethoscope only after his recent pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He will be remembered for the quiet patience and compassion he showed his patients, students, colleagues and friends.

Randolph devoted free time to supporting local arts and culture; spending nine years as a board member for the Huronia Symphony Orchestra. Physically active throughout his life, he enjoyed basketball, skiing, golf, ballroom dancing and guitar. Raising his girls on a hobby farm outside Phelpston allowed him to expand his hobbies to include horseback riding, winemaking, dog sledding and Ontario’s traditional winter pastime - snow shovelling. In his later years, Randolph taught Taoist tai chi and strived to live by the eight virtues. His Orthodox Christian faith sustained him in his final months. The family is grateful to the clergy and congregation at St. Sophia Church, and to staff at the Campbell River and Nanaimo hospitals.

Randolph is survived by his wife of 44 years, Maria; daughters, Tatiana (Jefferey) and Alexandra (Nicholas); grandsons Felix, Henry, Maxim and Thomas; siblings Rhea and Donald (Helen) and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Rose, Raymond, Edward, Jean, Sherman and William.

A private funeral service will be held in Victoria BC. Per Randolph’s wishes, please consider donating to the St. Sophia Church at www.saintsophia.ca/donate
