James Leask Obituary

James Gordon (Gord) LEASK, age 74, died peacefully at his home in Coal Harbour, BC, November 29 2019.

Born June 12 1945 in Dawson Creek, BC, he was predeceased by his parents James Gordon Leask, and Jean Violet Leask, and his beloved younger brother, Harold. He is survived by his two sons-James Gordon (Leanna Demitri), and Robert William (Heather); two “senior” grandkids-Kaitlyn Dawn, and Cody Robert; and, two “junior” grandkids—Grayson James, and Cassidy Catherine, and his sister in-law Edie Leask.

He was unsurpassed in his quest for knowledge. His library consisted of over 2800 books covering topics (many of them hobbies) as diverse as gourmet cooking and western philosophy; astronomy and Shakespeare; breeding tropical fish and photography; gardening and various languages; music and beekeeping, and, so many more . A recluse by nature, he turned the game of chess into a game of solitaire, playing games against the masters, using books and multiple chessboards setup around the house. Despite his self-imposed sequestration, he was happiest on the rugby pitch, playing well into his 60’s. He is quoted as saying, “Rugby is the best sport in the world. It’s the only sport where the competitors beat the **** out of one another for 80 minutes; then, drink beer together when it’s over.”

A celebration of life is being planned for June of 2020 in Langley. Date, time, and location TBD. Contact Gord Leask at 604-997-3579, or Bob Leask at 905-628-4273 for more information. Gord was a generous man, who donated to many organizations, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of the following organizations/foundations-- Heart and Stroke; Red Cross; Canadian Wildlife; BCSPCA; or all of the above.
