Al’s retirement years were spent volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society, the National Association of Federal Retirees, the Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society, and the Alberni Project. Al loved nature, golfing, exploring the Island, travelling, and was an avid reader. He was a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 160, Comox, and the 888 Wing. Al maintained a positive attitude and lived life to the fullest.
Special thanks to Doctors Robertson, Borhan, and Bostro, and the nurses and caregivers at the CVH third floor who provided great care for Al and support to the family.
A Poppy Service will be held in his honour on Sunday October 20, 2019, at the Comox Legion, downstairs commencing at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
